Last Sunday we departed Los Angeles for 6 glorious days at the Meliá Resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Upon arrival at the airport were pounced on (not an exaggeration) by one Time Share rep after another. By the time we finally made it past all the trickery to the gentleman that was there to drive us to the hotel we were already exhausted!
When we arrived at the hotel we were very pleased with the beautifully scenic lobby. The view was spectacular and the hostess made check-in simple and easy.
- Two double beds
- Private bathroom
- In-room safe
We didn't have an ocean view, but the garden view was just as nice. The grounds were very well kept.
There were a few not so great things about the resort. Upon arrival we were told that there were three restaurants to choose from (in addition to the buffet): Mexican, Italian, and the Grill. On our second day when we went to make reservations we discovered that the restaurants were not open daily, as a matter of fact the only one that would be open during our stay as the Italian restaurant, which was open on Monday and Thursday only. I was sorely disappointed. I knew going into this that I would not have a plethora of food choices to begin with being that I'm a vegetarian (well I still eat some fish, but not much), but I was not at all prepared to eat quesidillas and salad the entire time either. I expressed my concerns to the concierge and I must say that the staff was very amenable. My sister and I were allowed to order off of the restaurant menus despite the fact that they were not opened. We also dined at the Italian restaurant on the days that it was open as well....the food was pretty good too!
This is a very family friendly resort; however, they really should beef up the activity schedule. There were a few things to do daily, but not many. For the most part you have to go outside of the resort if you really want to have a good time, but this could be bothersome if you're vacationing with your children. Even kids want to do more than go swimming every day.
All in all it was a good trip. I was able to get some reading done and I got a killer tan (killer as in sunburn). I am well rested, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world!
