Movie Review: Disneynature's Chimpanzee

There is something that I've always found so fascinating about primates. Perhaps it's because they always look so very thoughtful when I stare into their eyes or the way they interact with one another.

I was invited to a screening of DisneyNature's new film, Chimpanzee, at the El Capitan theater on Sunday. The film takes place in the forests of Africa and follows the life of Oscar, an adorable baby chimpanzee.  Just like human babies, Oscar is completely dependent on his mother, Isha, to take care of him. Isha is very nurturing, she takes excellent care of Oscar, making sure that he is well fed and clean. Even when she's tired and he still wants to play, she remained patient.

When a rival band of chimpanzees, with the appropriately named leader "Scar," strikes their turf; little Oscar is left all alone. Unable to convince the other females to take him in, poor little Oscar tries his very best to take care of himself, but he just isn't old enough yet. When it seemed that all hope was lost, Oscar is "adopted" by a very unlikely chimp.

Narrated by none other than Tim Allen, Chimpanzee is an extraordinary movie.  The lush landscape is breathtaking, but the film also demonstrates the bond between mother and child, the importance of family, and also sends  a powerful message about resilience.

My 7-year old nephew, "Beans," really enjoyed the film and so did I. I encourage you to make a date with your family on Earth Day...go see this film!

This is not a paid post. I was invited to a free screening of the film by WDS Events. All media and photos were provided by Walt Disney Studios. The views expressed are the opinion of Just Say I Told You So.
